World Bee Day
It is World Bee Day, and here at Northstone Materials we are pleased to provide many habitats for bumblebees, hoverflies, and other solitary bees across our locations. Bees and other pollinators are welcome residents on our sites and make their homes in our scrublands, natural meadows, and bare soils.
We appreciate that pollinators are declining due to climate change and the loss of habitats. We are delighted that Northstone sites can provide a range of habitat types, allowing our bees to keep drinking nectar and supporting the natural ecosystem. After all, we need pollinators to help make our workforces’ lunchtime sandwiches!
Fun Fact! There are 21 species of bumblebees across the Island of Ireland. They are covered in tiny hairs and are a pollen magnet. On a Bee's hind legs, their tibia is flat and convex. This forms a basket where over 1 million grains of pollen are stored.
