Peter Moore's Retirement
On Friday, 19th July, the squads and management from our Western division met in Mountfield to mark Peter Moore's retirement. The event allowed everyone to reminisce about Peter's current and past achievements. It was a mark of the esteem that Peter is held in to see already retired staff, including Peter Doherty and Dympna Owens joining to mark the event.
Peter joined RJ Maxwell in Moneymore in 1982 after having already worked for Farrans for three years so all told 45 years service with Northstone companies. For several years, Peter was the foreman looking after the patching squad, carrying out all the hand patching for the Cookstown Road Service Section. He was always very self-sufficient, built a good team around him, worked very closely with Dermot Bleeks of Road Service, and required very little input from our engineering staff. As less patching was being done, Peter’s role changed, and he became the operator of one of the first bobcat planers in the country. This role saw him travelling more extensively across all of NI and Donegal, which he has been doing for the last 20 years.
Speaking to the Contracts Managers and Engineers, it is widely accepted that it will be challenging to replace Peter. He was always the first man on site to get joints cut to get squads started, and he was capable and willing to operate every plant item and fulfil every role we had on site. He was always willing to go the extra mile and went about his work in a quiet if sometimes gruff, manner.
We are deeply grateful for Peter's 45 years of dedicated service and wish him every happiness in his well-deserved retirement.
