NI Apprentice Week - Pearse Og Foster

We want to celebrate some of our young apprentices in recognition of #NIApprenticeshipWeek2024.  Our first celebration of the week is for Pearse Og Foster.

Pearse joined NSM on 9 January 2023 as an apprentice engineer (civils).  In addition to working for the company four days a week, Pearse spends one day at South West College.  When we caught up with Pearse, he had settled in well and told us the following:

“I have completed a full year working as an apprentice engineer here at Northstone; I’m surrounded by a helpful team who have helped me better understand the construction industry and the duties of an engineer. I’m on the Northwest Greenway project on the Culmore Road in Derry. On-site, I carry out a range of tasks, such as marking out and setting levels, keeping track of coverages, managing materials, and overseeing the day-to-day work being carried out. The apprenticeship scheme has opened many doors and has given me a great opportunity to gain first-hand on-site experience that cannot be taught in a classroom. I can better understand my modules thanks to being on-site and witnessing the project being built.”
