National Recycling Week

As the national Recycling Week comes to a close across the UK, at Northstone, we have reflected on the Big Recycling Hunt for ‘missed capture’ and to become a more sustainable business.

 

Since 2019, recycling at Northstone has increased by 67%, and we’ve cut our waste to landfill by HALF!  In 2022, we’ve diverted over 70,000 tonnes of inert construction and demolition waste from landfills into alternative products and uses. That’s the equivalent of 3,500 fully loaded 8-wheel tipper lorries.

 

Three significant steps have led to our success in driving waste to landfill down and recycling up:

Educating our employees

Improving recycling facilities on site, and

Improved tracking from waste companies

 

In just one year, from 2021 to 2022, recycling of controlled waste has increased by 160 tonnes through those three steps to make real change!
