International Day for Biological Diversity
As part of the Northstone's Biodiversity Action Plan and to celebrate International Day for Biological Diversity, our Boat Operators came landside recently to help tackle the invasive plant, Himalayan Balsam, affecting biodiversity on Lough Neagh’s shoreline and collect washed-up litter.
At Northstone, we recognise sustaining and protecting the natural world around us is essential. Given this importance, we are working to eradicate Himalayan Balsam on our sites because it out-competes native species, causing biodiversity loss, soil erosion, and increased flood risk.
The team removed 11 bags of Himalayan Balsam and 13 bags of rubbish (mostly plastics) from the shoreline.
Thank you to our Boat Operators for enthusiastically taking up the litter pickers and bin bags to help halt biodiversity loss.
