Davy Fowler's Retirement
With sadness the team at Craigantlet said a fond farewell to Davy Fowler who retired from the quarry on Thursday 24th November. Davy's journey started in 1975 (with a short hiatus when the site was closed due to an economic downturn between 1981 and 1983). Having rejoined in 1983, he has recently marked his 40th year of service.
Davy remarked "In those days, five minibuses came up from the Ards Peninsula to work on the site, with the site operating the coating plant 24 hours a day with a night shift in the garage".
Davy has spent most of his career driving the loading shovels, commenting, "He has run the Caterpillar machine through all the letters of the alphabet". Quarry Manager, Pierce Kirwan says "Davy rightly has garnered the reputation of a hard-working, skilled operator. He will be a hard act to follow".
We at Northstone wish Davy and his wife, Inez, a long and happy retirement as they enjoy spending time with their three grandchildren.
