Congratulations to Ben McKnight and Sam Christie!
We are thrilled to announce that Ben McKnight has been awarded the Best Safety Observation of the Year for 2022! Ben's keen eye identified a critical issue related to the lack of visibility of goalposts during nightshifts on the motorway. But he didn't stop there! Ben implemented a simple yet ingenious solution using blue traffic cones with lights and reflective sleeves, providing advanced warning for the presence of goalposts and overhead lines.Safety on the motorway has been significantly enhanced thanks to Ben's efforts.
We would also like to recognise Sam Christie for receiving a highly commended award. Sam's observation at the North Down coating plant highlighted an energy isolation issue during maintenance activities. By identifying the absence of means to isolate pneumatic energy for the gates, Sam suggested the installation of a lockable isolation valve on the air line. This solution ensured that the gates could not close, greatly improving safety procedures at the plant.
Both Ben and Sam have exemplified exceptional observation skills and innovative thinking, proposing practical solutions that have had a significant impact on safety. We commend their dedication and congratulate them on their well-deserved recognition!
