Academy Primary and Nursery School Visit
On Thursday, 12th June, our colleagues Colin Magwood, Rebecca Mitchell, Deborah Adair, Emma O'Brien, Emma Graham, Callum Carty and Eoghan O'Neill all set off early in the morning to visit the P4 and P6 pupils at Academy Primary and Nursery School in Saintfield.
We were invited to the school to help pupils understand the importance of their primary learning subjects: Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) and how these subjects are relevant to everyday life and future careers.
In particular, we aimed to encourage girls to pursue interests in Science and Mathematics, as statistics indicate a decline in the number of girls choosing these subjects. The morning consisted of a blend of interactive activities and presentations, with the Northstone team delivering the morning assembly. The P4 and P6 pupils thoroughly enjoyed the morning when they learnt about quarries, contracting, materials testing, and how to calculate the amount of material needed by determining area, perimeter, volume, and scale.
Thank you to all involved as we strive to demonstrate our commitment to the local communities in which we operate.
